Course Overview

The field of philosophy of science and religion (PSR) is an emerging field that has been gaining a lot of attraction and interest since the past few decades. However, the Muslim contribution to this discourse is relatively minimal. Given the plight, this course is an attempt to introduce Muslim students to the questions discussed in this field. Some of the controversial topics, like the existence of God, His relation to the natural world, quantum mechanics, and evolution will be reviewed and discussed.

Key Objectives

Due to the nature of the topic, this is to some extent an interdisciplinary program. The goal of this program is to enable the participants:

  • To analyse the different kinds questions that PSR will address
  • To acknowledge and understand the challenges theism faces in contemporary philosophy and modern science
  • To be able to think critically and independently about the various issues that will be discussed
